Hemp - Your questions answered!
Here at HIN we are proud to be a part of the Hemp revolution. Our Gin is infused with the leaves of the Hemp plant. Hemp gives our Gin a deep and aromatic taste with a distinctive smell. We are proud of our love and knowledge of Hemp, but we understand you may have some questions about it. Read below to find out more about Hemp and HIN.
What is Hemp?
Hemp is a type of flower and is a part of the Cannabis family. Its botanical name is Cannabis Sativa.
What is Hemp used for?
Hemp has been used as an industrial material for thousands of years. The stalks of the Hemp plant are incredibly robust making it one of the natural worlds strongest materials. Hemp is still used today in the construction industry, making products such as Hemp-Bricks, Hemp-Crete and then as a thermal insulation.
Is Hemp the same as Marijuana?
Hemp and Marijuana are both members of the Cannabis family but are distant cousins. Most Cannabis plants contain Cannabinoids, these are a type of chemical substance. Studies show that there are 113 different types of Cannabinoids. THC and CBD are the most common types of Cannabinoids, both offering very different side effects.
What is THC?
THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is the chemical substance that gives Cannabis its Psychoactive properties. The strain of Cannabis, Marijuana, offers very high levels of THC. The Hemp used by HIN Gin doesn’t contain any THC, there are therefore no Psychoactive side effects from drinking HIN Gin.
What is CBD?
CBD (Cannabidiol) is another chemical substance found in Cannabis however it doesn’t give any Psychoactive side effects like THC does. CBD is commonly used as a treatment for the side effects of Anxiety, Pain and Seizures. The Hemp used by HIN Gin doesn’t contain any CBD, there are therefore no medical or health benefits from drinking HIN Gin.
Is Hemp legal?
Yes. In 1928 all plant types of the Cannabis family were made illegal, whether they offered Psychoactive side effects or not. In 2018, the low THC strains of Cannabis were legalised, including Hemp. These Cannabis plants are grown under strict licensing laws and must have a medical or industrial growing purpose. HIN Gin uses the leaf of the Hemp plant which is a waste product of medical and industrial grown Hemp.
